Icebreaker functional underwear forms a fantastic base layer for everyday winter wear, but you can also use it from spring to autumn when it's great for sports likehiking, cycling, climbing or running. Merino wool is a lightweight, natural material that can wick moisture away from the body as it evaporates into the air. A great property of Merino is thermoregulation, where this material warms in winter and cools in summer, and retains these properties even when wet. Merino also protects against UV rays. Merino sheep wool is sourced in Australia and New Zealand, where the sheep are raised on pastures, and their wool is of the highest quality.

Items made of sheep’s wool are easy to care for. Thanks to its natural lanolin content, wool can clean itself. You can help this process by giving your woolly items a good shake and airing them outside regularly. This way, the material retains its fluffiness and softness, while excess moisture is removed, which prevents dust mites from breeding. In addition, the natural smell of wool dissipates more quickly with regular airing.
The thermal underwear is usually machine washable up to 30°C. Always follow the product label instructions to see if the product is suitable for machine washing and what temperature to wash it at.

Icebreaker began producing performance clothing made from Merino wool in 1995 in an effort to offer an alternative to synthetic fibres. Their wool is sourced from ethically farmed sheep, and during manufacture, sustainable and eco-friendly practices are observed.
100% natural Merino wool is very soft, does not itch and prevents bacteria from growing. Thanks to that it also prevents unpleasant smells when worn for longer period of time or when getting sweaty. It is naturally great at regulating temperature, keeping you warm even when wet.

How to measure?
Our sheep wool vests are straight cut, so they are the same width all the way round. We therefore recommend that you measure at the widest point of your torso, and choose a vest at least a few centimetres larger to accommodate another layer of clothing underneath.
Merino wool sweaters are made from a wool knit, so they are stretchy and conform to your body shape. For children's patterns, you just need to know your torso height, but for adult sweaters chest circumference is also important. Use this information to choose the ideal size quickly and easily.
We recommend that you choose thermal underwear that is more fitted to the body. Sizes may vary between manufacturers, so please check the size charts before purchasing.
